A PROJECT CURATED AROUND THE 50 YEARS OF THE UGANDAN EXODUS TO LEICESTER MARKED BY THE

SCULPTURAL GATEWAY

The "Golden Threads of Unity" project is established by The Vayyu Foundation and is a celebration of 50 years of Ugandan Asians in Leicester, with a focus around the installation of an art masterpiece called "Sculptural Gateway" designed by Artist Anuradha Patel, and was created in partnership with The Leicester City Council, Leicester Museums and Galleries and the Belgrave Neighbourhood Cooperative and Housing Association.

Our project The "Golden Threads of Unity"aims to highlight and preserve the voices and stories of the Ugandan Asian community and beyond through the Sculptural Gateway installation, keeping the voices and stories alive through a multifaceted approach of VR storytelling, music, digital art preservation, education, and community engagement based around the site in Leicester, United Kingdom.

  • VR Storytelling: Preserving Voices from the Exodus

    Recording firsthand accounts of the Ugandan Refugees exodus. Creating immersive VR experiences that allow visitors to hear and see these stories appear right into front of their eyes to immortalise these precious stories whilst visiting the Sculptural Gateway Site.

  • Music Track & Video : Learning to Fly

    Recoding a music track and video that will narrate the journey of a second generation Ugandan descendent entitled "Learning to Fly to immortalise the important message and to inspire others to do the same.

  • Digital Art Gallery: Capturing the Golden Mile

    Digitally preserving photographs and displaying them around the Sculptural Gateway using VR technology. Providing a lasting digital format to showcase the rich history and culture of the area and making it accessible bridging the gaps in religion and culture shared by a common experience

  • Community Engagement: Inspiring the Next Generation of Story Telling

    Engaging with the local community, schools, encouraging people and students to learn about the history and contributions of the Ugandan Asian community through trips, workshops, exhibitions, and interactive educational activities to engage young minds in creativity and to weave in their tapestry.
