How did this charity start?

The movement started when our founder became disillusioned with the fast fashion industry in the United Kingdom and the impact of pollution on this planet.

Taking six months off to sail around the world, he was appalled by the level of marine pollution he encountered at sea and on the beaches and decided to create a sustainable fashion brand and non-profit charity called The Vayyu Foundation, with an aim to clean the world’s oceans whilst leading a new generation into clean fashion.

Do you recycle everything you find?

We recycle the plastic that is still viable, unfortunately some of the pieces are non-recyclable such as crisp packets, so we partner with facilities that can dispose of these items more sustainably.

How will you remove #1BILLIONKILOS of plastic?

We believe in a multifaceted approach at The UOcean Project, which is why we will collect the plastic by hand and also using autonomous machinery such as river robots and barriers in rivers and entries to sea.

Yes, we believe environmental issues can be solved with collaborations, teamwork and partnerships. We encourage all groups to get in touch with us and let’s stop ocean plastics together.

How do you know how much you have collected?

We simply weight the bag at the end of the clean up before the recycling stage occurs.

How are your projects funded?

Our projects in the UK are funded by local councils, local authorities and charities, these funds are ring fenced and are only spent in the UK.

Our international projects are funded separately by public donations and other specific organisations.
